Marhaba!
Welcome to the ACS Research Conference: Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in MENA. Organized by the ACS Qatar chapter, Qatar will be the first Arab country to host an ACS regional research conference, and only the second outside of the United States. We strongly believe that this conference will advance the Middle East and North African regions’ culture of research and development, engineering advances, and educational outreach. Such progress will run parallel to the industrial, economic, and educational development in Qatar.
Beyond the value of this conference to MENA-based scholars, our meeting will be an opportunity to exchange ideas and for discussions with distinguished scientists and engineers coming from all over the world. I am delighted to announce that two of the 2016 Nobel Laureates in Chemistrym Sir Fraser Stoddart, FRS FRSE FRSC ACSF, and Ben L. Feringa, will be our plenary speakers.
We will also host a special session to commemorate the life and achievements of 2005 Nobel Laureate Robert H. Grubbs. Let us, his colleagues and friends, share the collaborations, stories, and successes Bob brought to the fields of polymer and green chemistry.
Our conference is proud to be under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Al-Naimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, State of Qatar.
The conference would not be possible without the generous patronage of our sponsors, Qatar Fertiliser Company Ltd. (QAFCO), Texas A&M University at Qatar, Qatar Airways (our exclusive and the Official Airline Partner), ConocoPhillips Qatar, TotalEnergies, the Qatar Foundation, and Qatar University. Their support of this meeting proves their commitment to enriching the culture of research and development in Qatar and the MENA region.
This, no doubt, will be an outstanding conference that will be a platform to discuss the latest MENA research in the fields of chemistry and chemical engineering, to promote the role of the MENA countries in industrial leadership, and to highlight advances in science and engineering education across the MENA communities.
We look forward to welcoming you in Doha from May 9-11, 2022.
Sincerely,
Hassan S. Bazzi, PhD, ACSF, FRSC
